Tommy Club & FirstPort
Tommy Club has been FirstPort’s chosen charity since 2024 and we are thrilled that colleagues from across the company have raised more than £50,000 for our work providing homes, creating jobs, and building communities for veterans.
Introducing Tommy Club
Tommy Club is the home of the Tommy and is run by Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE). It brings supporters together to fund jobs, homes, and communities for Armed Forces of all ages and their families across the UK. It is support that changes lives every day.
Two million veterans live in the UK. Every year around 15,000 people move from the Armed Forces to new civilian lives. Of these, it is estimated that 2,000 of these will leave on a medical discharge, affected by injuries or poor mental health which make it much harder to transition to civilian life.
More than 300 veteran families benefit from homes on our Village in Kent, which is growing by a further 100 homes with the development of The Centenary Village. These new homes are accompanied by a new Community Centre, a Gym, and an IT Suite, all built to the highest standard to support veterans who are rebuilding their lives after service.
In our social enterprises in Kent, Surrey, and Scotland, our teams produce thousands of signs for road, rail, and commercial partners all over the UK – and more than 70% of those teams are veterans, have a disability, or both. Thousands more benefit from employment support across England, Scotland, and Wales.
Who FirstPort helps
FirstPort support helps veterans access support at RBVE for as long as they need it.
Tirtha is among the third generation of his family to join the Gurkha Regiment. He completed two tours of Afghanistan. While clearing IEDs from an alleyway, he stepped on an explosive device and lost his left leg above the knee. After rehabilitation, he joined RBVE’s social enterprise and is now a Team Leader overseeing production. “RBVE gave me a second chance — not just to work, but to live well” he says, “Being here is like a family”.
