Who we help

We empower veterans, their families, and people with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives by creating jobs, providing homes, and building communities.

Who we help

At RBVE, we help people who are often the furthest from opportunity: veterans and people with disabilities. Many face complex barriers to employment, and without the right support, become trapped in a cycle of unemployment and homelessness. We meet them where they are and empower them to rebuild their lives.

The people we support aren’t looking for charity, but opportunity. They want the chance to contribute, to be recognised for their strengths, and to live independently with dignity.

Veterans

Veterans are parents, partners, carers, and professionals. Many are of working age and eager to contribute, bringing with them a wealth of transferable skills: leadership, discipline, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience, to name a few. These are qualities any employer would value.

Yet misconceptions around mental health, rigid stereotypes, or a lack of awareness about military experience can lead to veterans being unfairly excluded from opportunities. Despite their capabilities, many face challenges in navigating civilian employment, housing systems, or support services.

We support British Armed Forces veterans of all ages, ranks, and backgrounds. This includes Gurkhas and Commonwealth personnel who served under the British Armed Forces. Whether they left the military last year or decades ago, we help them find stability, purpose, and community. We see their strengths, not just their struggles.

Anil's Story

Aged just 23, Anil was serving in Afghanistan when he stepped on an IED and lost his leg. He thought his life was over. But after rehabilitation, he found a new beginning with RBVE.

We welcomed Anil into Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company (BBMC), our social enterprise supporting veterans and people with disabilities. Today, he works as an Operations Administrator, part of the team producing road, rail and commercial signs for clients across the UK.

With RBVE’s support, Anil is now undertaking a business apprenticeship at MidKent College to further progress his career at BBMC.

“RBVE has given me a second life.”

People with Disabilities

Since 1919, RBVE has stood by those who have served and those facing barriers to work. From our founding days supporting WWI veterans to today, our commitment to encouraging independence has never wavered.

Many of the veterans we have supported over the years live with mental and physical disabilities. Through our work to meet their needs, we’ve been able to expand our services to help anyone facing similar barriers.

Today, we support people who would otherwise struggle to find work due to their disabilities in accessing stable and supportive employment within our social enterprise factories.

Sean's Story

Sean, who is visually impaired, spent 13 years searching for work. Despite his eagerness, his confidence hit rock bottom. After countless setbacks, he began to believe employment might never be possible.

That changed when he came into contact with RBVE. Today, Sean works in fulfilment, helping to pack and dispatch orders from the RBVE shop. He’s a valued member of Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company, contributing to a team that delivers with pride

“Life has been given a purpose since I have been here.”
