Housing for Veterans
RBVE is tackling veteran homelessness head-on by providing tailored housing for veterans, including emergency accommodation, supported living, and long-term homes.
Housing for Veterans
RBVE has been providing homes for disadvantaged veterans since 1919. Thousands have rebuilt their lives in our Kent village, overcoming injury, disability, and long-term unemployment to find stability and purpose.
Today, we support more than 340 veterans and their families across a thriving, inclusive community. Many begin their journey in emergency accommodation, progress to individual housing, and move on to independent living beyond the Village. For those aged 55 and over who need extra care, we offer permanent supported living in dedicated residences.
Our village model combines housing, employment, and community support in one place. It’s a proven blueprint for lasting impact, and one that could be replicated across the UK to support more veterans facing disadvantage.
The Centenary Village: 100 New Homes
Our £28 million capital project will deliver 100 additional homes for 100 veterans and their families by 2027. A national beacon for veteran welfare, it combines:
Emergency apartments for single veterans in need
Family homes designed for long-term living
Supported living apartments for those requiring extra care
The Centenary Village is a place where veterans can rebuild their lives, with the right support, in the right environment.
Emergency Accommodation
Mountbatten Pavilion offers 28 private rooms for veterans in crisis, experiencing homelessness, substance dependency, or sudden life disruption.
Designed as a ‘stepping stone’, residents benefit from access to RBVE’s full wraparound support, including our Step-In programme, welfare and healthcare services, and opportunities to gain employment training and work experience. It’s a vital first step toward long-term independence.
Individual Living
Those ready for greater autonomy can move into self-contained homes designed for long-term living.
These homes offer access to RBVE’s full wraparound support, including employment services, welfare advice, community activities, and peer connection. Residents live independently, but remain part of a thriving veteran community, with the reassurance of nearby support if needed.
Independent living in the Village is often the final step before veterans move on to life beyond RBVE, equipped with the tools and confidence to thrive on their own terms.
Supported Living
Queen Elizabeth Court and Greenwich House are RBVE’s supported living residences for veterans and their spouses, aged 55 and over. They offer private apartments with access to on-site care, social activities, and community connection.
They are ideal for those who want to live independently but benefit from occasional support. Residents enjoy the privacy of their own space, alongside the reassurance of a dedicated care team and a welcoming village atmosphere.
